Overview:
I am using a very basic, homebuilt, unregulated DC power supply. Input is 120 VAC which is rectificed and smoothed to an unregulated ~33 VDC.

My smoothing capacitor is vastly over-sized, but it is the only thing I could find with a mounting bracket at the surplus store I stopped at. The capacitor should be sized as follows:
